Description

If you are looking for a lush, spreading evergreen that is cold hardy, the Dense Yew is an excellent choice. The dark green foliage is soft to the touch and attractive. The pretty red berries attract songbirds. This shrub adds year-round interest to your landscape.

This bush is slow-growing, but can reach 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide at maturity. How to Care

The Dense Yew only requires minimal care once it is established. This plant is hardy, tolerant, and versatile. It rarely has issues with insects, diseases, or rabbits.

Newly Planted Yews

This yew can grow in full sun to part shade and any well-draining soil. While this plant is drought tolerant once it is established, watering deeply during periods of drought is very beneficial for the health and growth of the Dense Yew.

Water deeply when planting and at least every other day for the first week or two. Water thoroughly about twice weekly for the next two months while your shrub is establishing.

Apply a 1 to 2-inch layer of mulch around your Dense Yew. This will help the soil retain moisture better and protect the roots. Eliminating weeds is an added bonus that only helps your evergreen grow even better.

Established Yews

Water the Dense Yew during periods of drought to keep it at its best.

Fertilize yews in early spring with a slow-release fertilizer.
